Hello friends, it's your old buddy Richard Gustason. Wanted to take a moment and celebrate someone who, don't know if she knows it, has become somewhat of an inspiration to me: KATY GRAVES. Now you are saying to yourself "Who in the blue hell is Katy Graves?" Well read on and you will find out who in the blue hell she is.
Katy is first and foremost a loving wife to her military husband and wonderful mother. Now to the good part. She is an excellent country music singer. Now you are saying to yourself "Why is SHE your inspiration?" Well I will be glad to tell you. But first thing is first: take your bathroom break now.
I started to know Katy Graves through Twitter. Was advised to follow her which I did. Now at first it was because she's an attractive blonde (yep no brainer on that one). Yet as time grew on I started to notice that Katy was a singer. Not a fan of country music but to me she sounded really good. So decided to see if she did any gigs. Well she did. Got to see Katy at Pikes Peak Brewery Company in the Summer of 2013. And yeah my expectations were what I imagined. She was really REALLY good. And she got me to tolerate country music. A feat very few can say they have achieved. I raise my glass to her for that. As time grew I got to know her and talk to her more. Learned she was married to a military husband and is a mother. I also learned she had sights on getting an album made. Now this is where it get's interesting. I have heard that song and dance (pun intended) before with people. Only to see them fail miserably and they wind up screwing up my #2 order at Wendy's. Yet the vibe I got off of her when she said that made me go "You know she could actually do it." Time grew on but still stayed in contact with her through the social media outlets and went to a couple more gigs of hers. As that time grew, my thoughts went from "I think she could do it" to "Oh yeah she's getting an album made here soon". But also noticed she was taking the RIGHT WAY to getting successful. Working hard at songwriting, booking places to do gigs, doing the gigs and so on and so on. Which, after seeing this, made me decide to take a plunge and go after my entertainment dreams of my own. So Katy Graves has inspired me to go after my dreams with hard work and never giving up. That is one thing that stood out to me with this lovely lady. She NEVER GAVE UP. And isn't giving up either.
So the picture you see in this post was taken on February 28th, 2013. It was taken at her EP release party for "Whiskey and Jesus". That's right, she completed an album. Just like I sort of felt then it went to knowing deep down she could. But truth be told, I didn't think it would be done. But it got done by God. Which is why she inspires me. Now I KNOW that with hard work and never giving up on the dream it can be done. Goals can be achieved with that kind of work ethic and dedication to whatever it is you are going after. So my friends raise your glass! And let's give a toast. A toast to someone who done good.
A toast and applause to my inspiration: KATY GRAVES
