Good morning class. I am your teacher Richard Gustason and with a show of hands how many of you have goals and dreams? Good, good. Now how many of you have GIVEN UP on those dreams and goals? Okay. Well today wanna give you a pep talk. This pep talk is not just for me or you, it's for everybody.
Let's start with story time: There were two guys back in the gold rush days. One was a successful insurance agent, the other a successful farmer. Both had dreams and goals for finding that ilusive gold. The insurance agent went first and dug until he did find some gold. However, like many, he continued until they felt there was none. Same thing with this fella. So one day he decided to sell some equipment and go back to insurance. He happened to run into a farmer who purchased the equipment and go to the spot where the agent went digging. Funny thing happened. When the farmer went back, he used the equpiment and also something else: his knowledge of the earth. So with the equipment and his knowledge and NOT GIVING UP he discovered the largest piece of gold at that point. It was THREE FEET AWAY from where the agent quit going for his goal.
That story has stuck with me for a few years now. And it's fitting because since I've started to do more in this world of entertainment I've learned to not give up. Yeah times are going to be slim but I always wonder: if I quit now, is success just three feet away and I miss it? Or what if I keep going and is success three feet away or three miles away? Whenever I get to those questions (which by the way I still ask myself every day) I hear three words: NEVER GIVE UP.
Vince Lombardi said it best I believe when he said "Winners never quit and quitters never win" Or was it Yogi The Bear? Don't know who said it but boy that rings true doesn't it gang. And you are probably in a perdicament where you are feeling the same way. Which is why I am writing about this subject. Because maybe you need to hear NEVER GIVE UP!
Now if you've given up on your dreams and are pretty content with your life, I am all for it. But this is for those who are, like me, going after dreams and goals. Because they too are going through this mess of wondering to give up or keep going. I am going to side with the latter. And hopefully they read this and keep going. And if not and they give up, that is fine. Just remember you could be three feet away from success.
So class that is today's session. So your assignment is pretty darn simple: never give up. If you do, congrats you have open the door for the next person to come in and succeed. It's fine for you though because you may have a life you enjoy. But if you do, don't be envious of the person (which could be me) who succeeds. Because being envious is sort of ugly, like those bowling shoes your dad used to wear on league night. Yet if you are one of those few who have dreams and aspirations I have three simple words for you: NEVER GIVE UP

I'll be doing open mic stand up comedy on 2/20/14 at South Side Johnny's in Colorado Springs, CO and on 2/27/14 at The Red Room in Manitou Springs, CO. Also still some (but not enough) time to still help with the funding of getting HOLY ULTIMATUM funded and filmed. So go to http://igg.me/p/635551/x/5956860, contribute and share the link with friends and family and maybe neighbors who just have nothing better to do than help fund films.
I will see you wonderful people soon and as always comes fo
