I am going to shock the universe with what I am about to say. This could bring nations down and relationships to come to dramatic ends. Here it is: I AM ONE SCREWED UP FOOL!!! Well I guess it's not that shocking. Oh well, at least I admitted it. Yes, folks I, Richard Gustason, conveyer of sex and laughter, is mentally and emotionally screwed up. However I have found the perfect therapy for me. What is it you may be asking? Well...it's stand up comedy.
Let's begin with addressing my issue. Folks I am a complete nutjob right right. To some, I've been bat-crap crazy for years. Part of me being emotionally a hot mess right now is trying to get a film from a script I wrote with all sorts of feedback from different angles. Some have been good professional feedback. Others just has been people having a bad day and taking it out on me. Then we have the fact that I am for some reason on this weird train wreck called being single and actually learning how to get back in the game for some sweet love making. That is going along gloriously horrible...but getting better. Oh and then there's the whole worrying about how to get to Los Angeles deal. Which I will do come hell or high water. I will resort to kicking over lemonade stands if need be.
Now comes the good stuff, my therapist COMEDY!!! Oh you sweet, sweet sexy lady you. You do know how to make me feel better. Comedy has made me feel better for quite sometime now. Whether it be watching my favorite comedy movie AIRPLANE to watching my favorite TV show PARKS AND RECREATION (this of course is also wonderful eye candy for me and my candy is Aubrey Plaza). Yet when putting my entertainment career together I noticed that stand up comedy is a good avenue to add to my repertoire. What was a pleasant surprise to me is how much better I feel after doing a set.
Seriously, once I get done with a set I feel pretty damn good. I can get some of the things that are going on in my life that is making me looney tunes off my mind and at the same time doing what truly I enjoy doing: making people laugh. I mean, it's like God placed this comedy in front of me and said "THIS will make you feel much better Richard." And as always God wins another round with me. He just has a way of doing that with me.
So in closing I say to the world this: Please keep giving me the crazy in my life. Because all I have to do is take that crazy in and write it down. And take it to my therapist and all will be right with my world. And WHY? Because it's simple. Comedy is my therapy.
